What, Why and How of Lateral Thinking and Mind Lab

Hello everyone,

I have noticed there is a lot of confusion about how this course works and what exactly is the Mind Lab. Here is a simple explanation.

Mind Lab is the name given to the environment we have created in the cellar. You can see its pictures here

Mind Lab Reading Area

Mind Lab aims at letting the child’s mind be free even if it is for one or two periods a week. The child when he has a Mind Lab class comes to the Mind Lab and explores the facilities there.

The facilities/faculties of mind available at Mind Lab are: Reading Library, Board Games, Drawings/painting, Computers. The child is free to choose amongst all these activities and can spend his time as per his wish.

The Mind Lab also helps catalyze certain true and rare talents of children. For example one of our students is great at mirror writing (i.e. writing the letters as they can be seen in a mirror). We helped her find out how she can enhance that skill. We found out what are the world records in the same, what feats others have achieved in the same, etc.

Mind Lab is for all students from std 1-9 in English Medium and std 5-9 in Gujarati Medium

Lateral Thinking, a formal course by Dr. De Bono aimed at expanding the horizons of a child’s thinking runs in the Mind Lab for stds 5-9 (EM). Each class here has two periods a week for Lateral Thinking over and above the Mind Lab period.

The Lateral Thinking course involves various tools like PMI and C&S, etc. through which our kids learn to think. To know more about this course and why is it so necessary click here.

Goshthi 2009

Goshthi is all about language, literature, personality development, positive thinking, elocution and conversation skills, public speaking, reading habit and book reviews. A few selected students from stds 5-9 of GM join this programme which starts with a beginning of every academic year. These students are further divided into 6 groups and are given various projects and assignments as home-work. Every month their performance is evaluated and the best performer is named “Goshthi Shikhar for the month” Similarly an annual event is held where a “Goshthi Shikhar for the year” is announced and is commemorated with great fan-fare.

This year’s annual “Goshthi Shikhar” award went to

Barraiya Hardi in the Primary section and

Thakkar Urmi as well as Soni Jaideep in the Secondary section

Teacher’s Day Celebrations at Devashish…….where Teachers were treated as Educational celebs. on a live TV show anchored by Leena Ma’am and co hosted by Bhandari Ma’am and covered by our dear Hiral ma’am.There were Emotional Discrimination polls,Opinion rounds, Rapid fire rounds,Games,Popularity Awards(after polls by students) and a lot more. The celebrations were a real BLAST(in every sense of the word!!)

The Kho-kho team of Devashish hands-down won the first round of tournament at the RH Kapadia School. Check the cheerful faces!! There seems to be no fatigue after such an exhilarating win.

Devashish EM Fancy Dress

GO GREEN !!!
The bright, airy skating rink was filled with life and colour. There were about eighty seven students, dressed up in creative costumes on the theme. Let’s Go Green!!. There were many water drops, trees.CNG vehicles, ACs, refrigerators , the Sun God, The Greek God Atlas himself along with Mother Earth all at one place trying to spread the message of Let’s go Green! Our Judges Ms. Bhavini Jani(Guj. Film Actress) and our very own Mrs. Mehra were simply amazed at the work done by students , teachers and parents!

DAS GM Ganesh Chaturthi celebration

Devashishians celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with great revelery. The KG students were all curious to learn about Lord Ganesha and his strange looks. However the biggest applaud goes to the small kid who dressed up as Lord Ganesh and even stayed so for the whole time.
Our kids sure are well-behaved and obedient.

With Janmasthmi just round the corner, Devashish celebrated it with a bang.
